BOTOX® Cosmetic
Patients at our Toledo practice choose BOTOX and other anti‐wrinkle injectable treatments such as Dysport® and XEOMIN® to soften forehead wrinkles and reduce worry lines. When injected by an experienced, skilled provider, BOTOX treatments can create a relaxed, rejuvenated appearance.
How Does BOTOX Work?
BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN all work by temporarily relaxing the tiny facial muscles that move whenever you squint, frown, or appear surprised. When these muscles contract, the skin furrows, creating what are called dynamic wrinkles, which include:
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
- Vertical lines between the eyebrows
- Chin wrinkles
- Lip lines
- Neck bands
The active ingredient in these treatments prevents the nerves from sending signals to these muscles allowing the wrinkles to smooth away. Dermal fillers are also injectable facial rejuvenation treatments, but they smooth and fill lines and folds that develop from our skin losing volume as we age.

Your BOTOX Procedure
BOTOX treatments typically take about 15 minutes. Dr. Colville or Leslie Ehle, RN, a certified aesthetic nurse specialist who is a trained injector, injects BOTOX with precision into the targeted muscle or muscles. Most of our patients experience very little discomfort during the injections, but we can apply a topical anesthetic to numb the skin if desired. We take a conservative approach to treatments and inject a tiny amount of BOTOX using a short, thin needle.
You can resume your normal activities or return to work immediately after getting BOTOX injections. Some swelling or redness may occur. It’s important not to rub the treatment area in the first few hours following the procedure because that could cause the product to move into a different area.

Does BOTOX Work Immediately?
It usually takes about 4 to 7 days to see the complete results from BOTOX, even though some patients may notice a difference in the first couple of days. Our recommendation is that you schedule a follow-up appointment at 4 months to maintain your results.

Are BOTOX injections painful?
Discomfort is typically minimal during BOTOX treatments because we apply a topical numbing cream (if desired) and use a thin, fine needle to make the injections.
Does BOTOX make you look younger?
By smoothing away frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead furrows, and other signs of aging, BOTOX treatments can make patients look refreshed and more youthful.
Are injectables safe?
Before performing any injectable treatments, one of our experienced providers will meet with you for a private consultation to make sure you are a good candidate. We use only FDA-approved injectables for optimal safety.
What’s a BOTOX lip flip?
BOTOX can be used for lip enhancement by injecting it into precise points of the upper lip muscle. Within a few days, the upper lip rolls slightly upward (flips) and exposes more of the red vermillion to give it a fuller appearance. The BOTOX lip flip can be combined with dermal filler lip injections to plump up and define both the upper and lower lips.
Is BOTOX or fillers better?
Both BOTOX and fillers are injectables used for facial rejuvenation and enhancement. The “best” one depends on the improvements you’d like to attain and your individual needs. We often use a combination of these treatments for ideal results.
Will I need more BOTOX to maintain my results?
Yes. BOTOX results are temporary and additional treatments are needed every 4 months or so to maintain the improvements.
Can it prevent new wrinkles?
We see women and men in their late 20s to early 30s for proactive BOTOX injections to prevent lines and wrinkles from forming. It can also smooth away early lines and wrinkles and prevent them from becoming deeper and more noticeable.
