He says understanding what causes cellulite is the key to learning why Cellfina is such an effective treatment. Many people believe that cellulite is simply associated with excess fat and can be eliminated with a procedure such as liposuction at Dr. Colville’s Toledo practice.

Fibrous bands pulling on the skin from below create those dimples, and fatty tissue pushes up through openings between the bands, Dr. Colville says. Cellfina targets those fibrous bands, using a tiny microblade to sever and release them.
“Creams and massage techniques have been popular in the past, but because they don’t target those bands that cause cellulite, they don’t have much effect,” he says. “Cellfina, on the other hand, actually works.”
Patients experience very little discomfort during the treatment, which is an outpatient procedure that requires only a local anesthetic.
