Your Guide to a Smooth Mommy Makeover Recovery

A mother fully recovered after her mommy makeover surgery.

If you’ve been looking for a way to contour your body after having a baby, losing a significant amount of weight, or achieving a dramatic lifestyle change, you’ve probably explored the possibility of a mommy makeover. A mommy makeover, of course, is often appealing because it combines multiple procedures to the torso, arms, legs, or breasts into a single procedure, transforming your body’s shape.

The mommy makeover recovery process can be a concern for my Toledo patients, though. Because many treatments are happening at once, a mommy makeover often requires longer recovery time. Here are a few helpful tips for making your recovery process go as smoothly as possible.

Make healthy choices

Healthy lifestyle choices, before and after your surgery, have a positive influence on your healing process. It’s important to avoid harmful habits such as smoking or excessive drinking. Eat a well-balanced diet so your body has the fuel it needs during recovery, and try gentle movement such as walking to promote good blood flow and wound healing. During this time, it’s also essential that you get plenty of sleep and rest.

Have a support system

Your range of motion and ability to move about will be a bit limited after surgery. Depending on the types of procedures included in your mommy makeover such as a tummy tuck and breast augmentation, this limited mobility may last from a few days to a week or 2 after surgery.

Plan ahead by having a support system in place to address your needs during this time. For the first few weeks after surgery, ask friends and family to be available to help you with everyday tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and childcare. You can learn more about the procedure and its recovery process in our related blog post.

Avoid stress

With a couple of weeks off from work for your recovery period, it may be tempting to think that you can accomplish big things during your downtime. A few words of caution, though: Don’t plan on taking on a lot of extra major projects during recovery. Resist those urges to learn a new language, write that best-selling novel, or paint your next masterpiece while you’re recuperating. Instead, pay some attention to your emotional needs during your downtime and avoid stressful situations. This makes your recovery process more restful as there are fewer demands on your time, attention, and energy.

Focus on self-care

Don’t feel guilty about putting yourself first. Take this opportunity to relax, let your body heal, and invest in yourself. This will help speed up the recovery process and get you back on your feet as soon as possible.

During recovery, it can also be helpful to keep your ultimate goal of a re-contoured body in mind. Take a look at my patients’ real-world results in their mommy makeover before-and-after photos to see the types of results you might expect.

With the body transformations achieved and the confidence boosted with a mommy makeover, it’s no wonder that the procedure receives a 96% “worth it” rating on RealSelf.
