Deciding to get breast implants is exciting, and patients typically weigh their options for months or even years before undergoing breast augmentation. At my Toledo, Ohio, plastic surgery practice, women often want to know if there is anything they can do to get the most out of their results.

In this blog post, I’ll discuss some specific steps you can take after the procedure to improve your breast augmentation results. But first, I’ll note that choosing an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon who frequently performs breast augmentation surgery is essential for getting desirable outcomes.

Simple Steps To Take After Breast Augmentation

Enhancing the look of your new breasts isn’t difficult but does require that you closely follow your surgeon’s post-op instructions. Additionally, you can pay extra attention to the following steps (also pictured above):

Closely follow Rapid Recovery protocols: I encourage patients to lift their arms over their heads 10 times every hour. There are no restrictive dressings on the incisions, only waterproof Band-Aids. After napping, you can shower, and then go out for a light meal or shopping on the evening of your surgery. Some patients may use an over-the-counter pain reliever or a little prescription medication to manage discomfort.

Take care of your incisions: Avoid putting tension on the incisions while they’re healing. After they heal, use professional-grade scar treatment products from our spa to minimize the scars’ appearance.

Follow massage and light activity guidelines: My patients come to my med spa to have a massage therapist perform post-operative, manual lymphatic drainage as part of the planned therapeutic protocol. Massage reduces the risk of developing capsular contracture and post-operative swelling.

Consider adding a lift: In some cases, patients considering breast augmentation can enhance their results by combining implants with a breast lift. Implants add volume to the breasts and, if a patient’s breasts are already mildly sagging, a lift will improve the outcome and create longer-lasting results.

Get enough rest: Even though I use techniques that significantly reduce recovery time for breast augmentation patients, it’s still important to avoid doing too much, too soon. Get plenty of sleep and rest during the first few days.

Wear a quality support bra: Initially, patients do not need to wear a bra after breast augmentation. After a few days, when patients are ready, a quality sports bra is added to the rapid recovery process.
